YCCAC Announces All-Staff Photo Contest

While the COVID-19 pandemic is still active, still with us, we might nonetheless reflect on what we have experienced over these past 16 months. It’s been a time of uncertainty and disruption, with changes to how we work, shop, recreate, visit with family and friends. It’s been a time which doubtless few of us could have imagined, until it happened.

To reflect is to give thought to these months and focus on how the pandemic touched each of us. In this way, we can exchange experiences with each other, our colleagues and friends.

We are launching a Photo Contest for YCCAC staff to share photographs that best typify their experiences during the pandemic. We invite you to unleash your creativity, and submit an image that, in your mind, captures what you believe is emblematic of your experience during the past year and a half.

All YCCAC staff are invited to submit 2 digital photographs for entry in the contest. We will have a small panel of judges to choose 10 finalists, with these photos printed on a stretched canvas and exhibited in the Connie Garber Art Gallery at Spruce Street. From these 10, the top 3 will be selected by a different panel of judges, with cash awards for these contestants. The names of the contestants will be withheld from the judges until the awards are presented. All finalists will be given enlarged prints of their winning photographs.

Top Prize $100

Second $75

Third $50

The jury will be looking for images that convey an impression, and communicate to the viewer a message or feeling that the photographer believes best captures their experience in living through this rare and challenging time. Content and composition will weigh more heavily than technical skill. We are hoping for a lot of entries from across the organization.

The contest begins Tuesday, August 2nd and runs to Tuesday, September 7th— following the Labor Day holiday. The photos should be emailed to BradB@yccac.org. The first panelists will review all photos the week of September 13 – 17, and select 10 photographs to advance to the final contest. Final selection of 3 top photos will be made the week of September 20 – 24, with the winners announced on Monday, September 27th.

This is not a contest to judge photographic technique or artistic style, but rather to view how you choose to express your experiences during the pandemic.

If you have questions or would like more information about the contest, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 408-5625 or by email at BradB@yccac.org.
