Update on the Coronavirus from the Deputy Director (March 31, 2020)

Hi Everyone, I have several updates on our Coronavirus response. First, we’d like to express a heartfelt thank you to everyone here at YCCAC. Everyone has responded with such grace and compassion for clients/patients and each other under very difficult circumstances. And we wanted to extend a particular thanks to staff who continue to provide public facing services such as health care and transportation. These are critical parts of the crisis response system, just as are police and firefighters. And everyone here at YCCAC and in the community is deeply grateful for the work you are doing every day. We have been letting clients and patients know that we are here for them by doing more outreach and communication. As the virus impacts employment, we continue to see more questions about how to access unemployment benefits, as well as people who need help because they are struggling to make ends meet. We are also seeing increased need for help getting critical supplies like food and medications because people are homebound or self-isolating. As a reminder, Mesha Quinn, our Economic Opportunity Director, is in charge of coordinating a response. Please let her know if you see emerging needs we should be aware of at Mesha.Quinn@YCCAC.ORG. At the federal level, as you probably know, on Friday Congress passed a $2 trillion economic stimulus package. There are several things in the law that might be helpful for our clients/patients and the organization, and we will be analyzing it closely in the coming days and weeks as the details become clear and guidance is issued. Also, if you need to be absent due to a COVID-19 related illness or due to having to care for a child whose school or child care center is closed, please contact Missy in HR. Limited paid leave may be available. Finally, if you’d like specific information on the current number of cases in Maine and York County, please visit the Maine CDC web site. https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/ As always, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. Carter
