Update on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) from the Executive Director

I wanted to update everyone on our Coronavirus (officially named COVID-19) preparation here at YCCAC. As you may know, there still have been no reported cases in Maine. However, state health authorities say that it is highly likely that Maine will have a case at some point. At this time, health authorities recommend that we continue to take the steps we have been taking, which are to engage in good hygiene and cleanliness. As a reminder, stay at home if you don’t feel well; wash your hands frequently; avoid shaking hands; cover coughs and sneezes; use a tissue when you blow our nose and put the tissue in the trash; avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; and maintain social distancing (3 feet) with anyone who is sneezing or coughing. We will also be doing additional cleaning daily to frequently used areas, such as reception areas and conference rooms. We are working closely with local and state health authorities on additional steps to take if and when a case is reported. In the meantime, we will keep you posted on any developments. Here are some important facts about COVID-19: Symptoms may include: Fever, Cough, Difficulty breathing, Sore throat (in some patients). Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. Most patients experience mild symptoms and can recuperate at home, but others, particularly those with underlying medical conditions, may experience more severe respiratory illness. The virus appears to spread in similar ways to flu and the common cold. This may include spreading through the air by coughing and sneezing; close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands; and touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes. There is a lot of misinformation in the community - please help share the above information if you get questions.
