Craft Kits Donated to WIC Families by Portland-based Nonprofit, Maine Needs

Maine Needs, a “grassroots nonprofit powered by a growing collective of volunteers,” donated 20 craft kits to YCCAC’s WIC program for handout to families enrolled in the program. Each kit contains assorted crafting supplies, including paper, colored pencils/crayons, watercolor paint, scissors, glue and stickers.

WIC program director Jen Quimby said in an email that YCCAC’s WIC program is listed on the Maine Needs website as an organization that accepts donations of arts and crafts materials. The initial donation of 20 Craft Kits, which were delivered last week, was supplemented yesterday (Wednesday, February 9) with 6 “Valentine-themed” kits, from a different donor.

Maine Needs strives to help individuals and families in Maine meet their basic, material needs by providing donated clothing, hygiene products, household items, and other necessities. “We focus our work on those starting life over from scratch: domestic abuse survivors, asylum seekers and those facing financial hardships. We partner with schools, caseworkers, nurses and nonprofits to provide these material resources,” reads a description on the organization’s website.
